Venous, traumatic, embolic, and nonatherosclerotic etiologies are excluded. All patients with suspected CLTI should be referred urgently to a vascular specialist. The Rutherford classification is a staging system to describe lower extremity ischemia. There is a version for chronic limb ischemia and a version for acute limb ischemia.
